Fracture-Seperation of The Distal Humeral Epiphysis

Abstract

|
Fracture-seperation of the distal humeral epiphysis has been considered to be a very rare injury, only 13 cases have been reported in the orthopaedic literature until 1974.
But in 1980, Jesse C. et al reported =16 cases of fracture-seperation of the distal humeral epiphysis.
These injury in young children are frequently misdiagnosed as an elbow dislocation especially in total seperation of the lower humeral epiphysis in the infant, when the capitellum and trochlear centers are not ossified or not matured enough, and no metaphyseal fragment is present on roentgenogram.
Displaced fracture-seperation of the distal humeral epiphysis with metaphyseal spike should be differentiated it from the lateral condylar fracture and supracondylar fracture of the humerus.
Two cases of the fracture-seperation of the distal humeral epiphysis is reported with brief review of literature.
